My 2005 Xtype 3.0 is overheating.

Asked by Guru5L5M Mar 26, 2017 at 09:32 PM about the 2005 Jaguar X-TYPE 3.0L Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car runs for about 5 minutes and then the car overheats.  The gauge
spikes to max, and after shutting the car off the fan runs for about 15 minutes.
I know this is not a system leak or a thermostat problem. Thank you for your
assistance.

When ever your car heats up with in 15 minutes of running the car its always the thermostat. So replace it.

this is not true, mine over headed on the way to work this morning out of no where. I am hoping did not do to much DMG as I drive country roads and not sure when it it happened. I pulled it off and shut it down soon as i saw. while waiting for the car trailer to arrive I poked around, the water pump belt shredded and came off. this to the left of the battery and not part of the rest of the belt system. not some ware I would expect to find a belt. easy to get to after pulling the battery and housing. going to fix this weekend and hope it was just the belt and not a pully/water pump has froze up thoe if so, again easy access unlike most things on the car.

Your problem can be a number of things...blocked radiator tubes...broken vanes on the water pump...the hot water heat valve...blown head gasket...sticky thermostat....and more...too need to make more observations and make note of condition s when things change...this way too begin the process of elimination on the diagnostic tree..
