Loss of power to wheels from transmission

Asked by Stacy Aug 01, 2017 at 08:58 PM about the 2004 Jaguar X-TYPE 3.0L AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving to work, stopped to turn into parking lot,
heard a horrible grinding noise. Stopped to back
into my spot, no power to the wheels in reverse.
Put car back into drive, still no power to the
wheels. Gears still engaging inside tranny but not
to the wheels. Car is in park, can push forward or
backwards freely.

So F_O_R, are you saying it's the transmission or could it be the transfer case? Do you have any helpful information? As we would prefer to save money and repair it ourselves. We are just trying to narrow down what the problem is.
