Car overheating.

My friends 2003 buick le sabre is overheating. The
water pump was replaced by a shade tree
mechanic. But he believes he messed up a
tensioner? Is it possible it's her thermostat
malfunctioning instead?

May not have gotten all the air out of the system bleed air from system like this. Remove cap from overflow tank fill with antifreeze to full mark leave cap off and start vehicle and let idle you will notice level in tank start to rise this is normal once thermostat starts to open level in tank will drop add more antifreeze to full mark then put cap back on.

Thank you firebird. She's currently stuck basically on side of road while car cools down. Your help is greatly appreciated.

That's good advice. I am also thinking the "messed up tensioner" may be causing the belt to slip so the water pump is not spinning full speed. Also, there is a possibility the belt was reinstalled wrong and the water pump is spinning the wrong way...won't pump.

Ok. I will have her video it and send it to me. I appreciate the help. It's very hard to diagnose something that is 400 miles away. But I sure appreciate you gentleman helping my friend out.
