What may be the reason my 1997 Buick LeSabre fuel gauge stays on empty, no reaction?

Asked by Nov 12, 2016 at 05:18 PM about the 1997 Buick LeSabre Custom Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just had my fuel pump replaced (it stayed on FULL, meaning fuel pump
issue) and NOW it does not move from EMPTY.  The fuel gauge is no longer
responding.  The negative side of the battery was NOT disconnected while
the fuel pump was changed out. Could this be a fuse and which fuse/relay
and which location may this be please?  Thank you!

Was the sending unit changed as well? there is a float attached to the fuel pump assembly that could be broken or not attached properly. Also the wiring could be compromised. You'll have to have the work rechecked.

A gas gauge that always reads empty is a bad ground. Since it was always reading full (bad power connection) before the fuel pump change the problem is most likely back at the fuel pump assembly. Check all your wiring and connections back there. HTH. -Jim
