'98 Buick Lesabre Custom Shifter Problem
Hi, recently my '98 Buick Lesabre hasn't been going into gear. It starts up normally, and
the fluids are at their norms, but once I put the gear into drive it acts like its in neutral.
I've had a my dad who take a look at it while I changed the gears, and he brought up it
could be the shifter unit may not be receiving the signal to actually switch.
Check to see if shift cable is binding or broken.
Will it move in reverse? -Jim
No it won't go into reverse either, and is the shift cable easily view able?
If you have a floor shifter the cable will be viewable once you remove the top of the center console. If it's a column shifter you should be able to see the linkage move from the engine compartment near the firewall. HTH. -Jim
Would it have anything to do with the TCM transmission control module?
It could. Is the check engine or service engine soon light on? HTH. -Jim
Yes it is.
Time to have it scanned
Definitely, scan the computer and post the trouble code(s). We can then help further. -Jim
