The PCM has to match the motor and all it's parameters. If you swap the PCM it will need reflashed anyhow as it's part of the anti-theft system.

That old motor in your truck will probably never pass smog inspection.

When you are going to change an engine out just look at ecm on passenger side fire wall if you see 3 plugs on ecu and another ecu looking thing next to it it's a16 tooth ring but if you see ecu and it has 4 plugs going in it it's a 32 tooth ring it's so easy to look at them first

My truck is a 2004 ram 4.7 the computer has 3 plugs and the crank sensor and cam sensor has 3 wires, so I get a engine from a 2002 ram with same exactly description as my 2004, ended up with a wrong engine, if I switch computer will work?
