I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 that I purchased and believe lt has a bad head gasket, which I have been loosing about a cup of coolant about every two weeks until the other day the thermastat didn't open and overheated well into the red. After this I replaced the thermastat & doesn't overheat now, however it's looking like the coolant is going out the exaust, since I have not got any water in the engine oil. Is this common for coolant leakage through the head gasket to the exost port and not into the engine oil? Could it be another issue?

Yes, depending where the gasket broke, it could leak coolant into oil chamber or out to exhaust.

Thank you 911.... much appreciated. On that note (anyone) for an exhaust leak I had 6 of the 8 cylinders showing water (H20) in the cylinder. I would have thought it may have affected one or two cylinders on one side of the V-engine & wonder if that is normal for a head gasket(s) leak to so many exhaust ports? I would have thought it would have occurred to one side of the V-engine, however when the thermostat stuck this last time I figure the heat took the other side out. Any other pointers on removal and replacement of heads is greatly appreciated? Thank you
