Starter wiring issue?

Asked by Gabe Apr 07, 2018 at 12:58 AM about the 2002 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the starter in my truck.  Everything was
identical except one wire was different. The old
starter used a special plug and the new starter just
has a bare nut.  I cut the plug and just attached the
wire to the bolt.

The truck starts fine but it feels like there is a “drag”
on the engine.  If I don’t keep pressing the gas, it
dies.  What is wrong?

check your wiring make sure it's not grounding out , or something else may have gone wrong by pure coincidence scan for codes even if the light ain't on , there's a "drag" at once you're cruising ? But it won't idle ?

Yeah it feels like the engine is being slowed down. I can’t drive it. The automatic won’t shift out of park until it idles.
