Engine temperature goes up

I have a 2001 dodge 1500. The temperature goes up  
beyond the normal when I let it idle. but when I press the
gas the temperature goes bask to normal.

How high does it go, coolant doesn't flow as fast at idle and this condition might be normal, If this is a new problem check your coolant level.
