I agree with Tom. But just in case yours is like my dodge 1500 is. (Fixed problem and reset with reader but light still comes on). Un hook your battery for at least ten minutes. This will clear all codes and light will go out. But if it comes back on in a day or two go have your codes read again. This is the only way I could get mine to reset and keep the light off.

Guys, if the Check Engine Light is on, there is a problem. From something as minor as a leaky Gas cap to a Mass Airflow Meter. Resetting and resetting and resetting the Check Engine light fixes nothing, will prevent passing a smog check, and could cost you in the long run. At the very least, the computer will set its "Limp" mode and your performance and especially fuel mileage will suffer. If you fixed the problem and the light still comes on then you didn't fix the problem. A code doesn't always mean a bad component. Often, it's an indication of a sensor reading outside the set parameters of the computer caused by something amiss in the SYSTEM that it monitors. There's diagnosing a problem and then there's throwing parts at it.
