I went to the store this morning and my suburban 71 would not go in park.later on that day I went back out and it engage and went to park. What seems to be the problem?
Inside the transmission there is a lever called the parking pawl. It locks the transmission so the vehicle won't roll away. Might be worn or stuck. Also, check the linkages from the base of the steering column to the transmission. They might be loose. HTH. -Jim
Did the shifter stop at R or did it move into P partially and stay and not lock or spring back into reverse. Check the pivot point on the tranny where the cable connects ensure there isn't any debris it there. If had a rock jamb it up before. Or there is a brake interlock solenoid that holds the shifter in Park until you push the brake in the steering column, maybe it is damaged (never heard of this but anything is possible).
Thanks guy's for all your help
