1998 dodge 1500 ST 2wd
I have a 1998 dodge 1500 with a 5 speed standard
transmission, and it has been running and shifting
great, and then today I turned a corner and it
stopped. When the engine is off it shifts into gear
just fine, but when you start the truck, it will not go
into gear. Please help.
It is possible the hydraulics went bye bye providing something didn't break in the clutch release, possibly the fork. Try this: make sure nothing is in the road, put it in 3rd gear shov in the clutch and turn the key to crank, if the truck tries to move then the clutch is engaged and something is wrong with the hydraulics or there is a part broken. If the engine starts and the truck doesn't try tit move then the clutch itself has a problem, if that is the case then replacement is recommended as well as the clutch slave cylinder. You may want to replace the clutch master cylinder also that way you start out with a new system that should last a long time.
Thank you. There wasn't anything in the road, and if I put it in any gear with the engine off and then try and start it, it does try and move. I will check the hydraulics tomorrow morning.
That really sounds like a hydraulic failure or a broken clutch fork.
