Why was it empty? Also when adding that much fluid you put a quart or two in at a time when the motor is running, foot on the brake and shift manually threw the gears to get the fluid to circulate threw the trany. You do this each time you put in a quart. You don't just dump in all of it at one time.

Empty A-518 after rebuild could take between 12 and 15 quarts. Does the stick say to check it idling in neutral? After you put tranny fluid in those long tubes you have to check it 3 - 4 times before you can actually see where it is on the stick. A whining or buzzing noise is a sure sign it is still low and you can damage it pretty quickly by driving it. Be patient and let it idle while sitting there. Foot on the brakes and slowly shift through all the gears. Then idling in neutral just keep checking and rechecking until you can see clearly, on both sides of the stick, where the fluid is. Hope this helps.
