Hard to tell where I'm sitting. Sounds transmission related. Bad solenoid, internal issue? Just guess's. You'll have to have it looked at by a mechanic.

Go drive vehical, allow it to shift into second gear. Then pull shifter down to first/low, and see if it locks in.(eng braking and acceleration) Then accelerate and allow trans to shift into third. press button so overdrive wont come in. Let off gas and see if trans freewheels. If so, odds are its a problem in the overdrive unit. snap ring likes to break. This can be fixed by just removing o/d unit from rear of trans. Will have to be repaired by someone w/experience with these trans. There is a spring in there that has abt 800lbs of press. on it........BE CAREFULL. and you have to aling the splines in overrun clutch, before o/d unit will go back onto trans. Hope this helps

Also, if you went forward-rev-forward-rev a bunch of times quickly, it burns the clutches.
