1994 Dodge Ram 1500. When. When Bought the truck the owner old me that when you turn the AC on with the truck Running the belt will start to squeel and the truck will shut off shortly after. During the winter i would run my Heat & sometimes my AC just to see if it would work.... it worked fine. But right when the weather changes to high heats i turn the AC on and then turn it off because he squeeling was driving me nuts, i pull around the corner and the truck cuts off. But i will Have no problem with shifting the truck to park and cranking it back up again! What is the deal?
It could be that the compressor is locked up, try turning the center of the clutch by hand or put a socket on the nut in the hub and see if the compressor will turn, go at least 2 full revolutions if it will turn. If it won't turn then your wallet is going to cry.
your 90% their , the squeal is slipping belt, either too loose for grip ,worn belt grooves, or as said system lacks oil and smooth running compressor. a clog in system will resist also but will usually blow the pressure pop off valve open
