2006 Ford F150...ugh

Asked by Brandi Jan 28, 2019 at 12:05 AM about the 2006 Ford F-150 FX4 SuperCrew Styleside 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Ford F150 fx4 and it was driving fine,
stopped to get gas, and it would not start again.
The mechanic said " the engine had lost all its
compression, and I needed a new engine!" I know
that  this year had crappy engines, but could it be
anything else? Also can you use the engine from a
1998 Ford F150 in the 2006 F150 fx4?

You need another 3V Triton engine. Did the cam chain break?

F_O_R We have changed the timing chain and cam phasers, and I'm not sure what the cam chain is(I am definitely not vehicle literate, I am the computer person and hes the "mechanic".)

How did it loose all compression? The cam chain and timing chain are the same thing. Did you install the new chain and phasers before or after this problem?

F_O_R The mechanic doesnt know how we lost compression. He just said 2006 is just a bad year for f150 engines and I need a new motor Changed other things about 6 or 8 months prior to this problem.

I would go with what your mechanic says. The anti theft had nothing at all to do with the engine compression.

Brandi: Who is "we changed the phasers and chain". Did the engine run after the items were changed? The process is labor intensive, but the trick is putting it back together correctly. There is a process to ensure timing is correct. Also, aftermarket phasers "suck". Were motorcraft phasers used?
