2005 f150 styleside triton xlt problems

Asked by Brittany Jul 10, 2022 at 02:50 PM about the 2005 Ford F-150 XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My boyfriend has a 2005 f150 styleside triton xlt. He
was driving on the highway and his rpms went up he
heard boom boom and then it broke down. Some how
between there and bring towed him his Cadillac
converter on his passenger side was cut off. My
friends boyfriend looked at it and the starter was
ruined he was holding it in his hand. He got it replaced
with a brand new one and now it's rolling over but not
starting and back firing and he said there's a weird
humming noise too. If anyone has any idea what's
wrong we would totally appreciate any input.

I also forgot to add my friends boyfriend said the engine is rebuilt and looks amazing.

Backfiring is usually a symptom of a jumped or broken timing chain or belt. Do a compression test. If all cylinders test very low or zero it's jumped timing. Also, the catalytic converter probably blew off when it backfired. Hope that helps! Jim
