7 lug?

Question type: General
i have a 2001 ford f150 xlt v8 5.4 liter short bed and for some reason they decided it
needed to have a 7 lug pattern and it is impossible to get new wheels for it because i
would have to have them drilled out which costs money and that i am lacking. can
anyone explain why they did this and i am wondering if there is a way i can change the
lug pattern without spending too much money. also, are there any places i could get a
7 lug wheel? in my opinion this is a stupid design and it makes it impossible to upgrade
wheels. any info on this helps. thanks a ton guys!

the 7 lug wheel is part of the HD Payload Package. It is the only reason your truck has it.
Ultra motorsports offers 7 lug wheels. There's a set for sale on my local Craigslist, which is why I'm here. I wondered what kind of idiotic engineer would make a 7 lug pattern, I should've known Ford was involved!
If your truck had 7 lugs it’s called a heavy half so basically it’s an f150 body on an f250
Ford should own up to their screw-up and give us a break. This is my last Ford. Jim M
The 7 lug pattern is there for a reason. It's because of the extra payload and towing package that the truck has. You will also find that in most cases, these trucks also have different transmissions , rearends, brakes, shocks & struts and a few minor things. The package that my f150 has, let's it haul more and tow more then a f250 superduty of the same year. Believe me, the truck rides like it also. Eagle Wheels has a nice rim for it and Centerline Wheels has rims that they will put any lug pattern into, but at a cost. If you like a truck that will carry and tow more then other 1/2's, then keep it, if not, then get rid of it. It's up to you???
I too have a 1998 "F250" short bed with 7 lug. Had it going on 15 yrs and impossible to find center caps cheap. The dealer laughed when I said I had a cab& half short bed F250. Ya, one of us didn't know what he was talking about. And it was me- SHOCKING I KNOW!! Oh well, it's slowly becoming a work/wood hauler piece of crap (everything I brag about falls apart). My question is; is there any value to keeping this in decent shape (any "collector" value sic) or should I just beat it like a rented mule until it dies and then walk away?
I'm having a hell of a time finding the rear seals for the back on the right and left side any ideas where I
