Engine Start Problem

Asked by JKG_81 Apr 22, 2019 at 07:00 AM about the 2000 Ford F-150 XLT Extended Cab SB

Question type: General

I have a 2000 Ford F-150 SuperCab 5.4L V8 Triton.  Engine started up and ran fine.  Instrument Cluster digital odometer would not stay on.  It would come on sometimes and go dark sometimes.  I took to youtube to figure out what i could do to fix the problem.  I took the instrument cluster out of the truck mind you before i did this the truck cranked and ran fine.  I took the cluster inside my home and disassembled it some more to get to the mother board.  Once i got to the mother board I soldered some points on it that a few different people in some youtube videos did that made the odometer work for them.  After soldering i reassembled the cluster and went back and reinstalled it in the truck.  As soon as I turned the key the lights on the doors came on the dinging sound was heard some lights in the cluster came on however when i tried to start the engine all that happened was the clicking.  I got my jumper cables to jump it and did get the engine to turnover but thats all it will not fire.  It will just continuously turn over.  Any ideas?

It's usually best to run things as they were designed , I think you're over your head and you've made something more difficult to fix . The new mother board at the dealer will cost god knows how much , maybe there's an after market one , e-bay perhaps or someone that rebuilds them .
