I have a 1995 f150 6cyl 4.9 ltr. Does the ac pump engage in the vent position

It seems that the ac clutch engages for all settings except the off
position!!!!!!

Look on the dash at the ac controls. Is there a button or knob to engage AC? There should be a temp knob to turn from hot to cold and there should be a different position/knob for AC and possibly AC Max. If either position is selected the compressor will operate. And yes, if AC is selected and the air selector is turned to "vent" the compressor will run.
