1993 Ford F150 XLT 5.8L Crank but no start after changing Fuel Pressure Regulator

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Okay so heres the deal. I bought a 93 F150 about a week ago. When it was
bought it ran but not well, there is a lack of fuel said the guy i bought it from. i
was able to limp it home with no real problems but if you get on it it looses all
power and pops/backfires. so far i have changed the pcv valve the fuel filter
and just did the FPR/Fuel Pressure Regulator. i thought it would be a good
idea to disconnect the battery and reset everything but i dont know if that did
harm or good. There is no check engine light but now it wont start. i dont
have a fuel pressure tester but when i push in the nipple on the fuel rail it
had enough pressure to blow it up on the hood and cover everything in
gas.... not my smartest move but there should be plenty fuel pressure. there
is spark because while i crank it it will try to fire once or twice but wont
actually start. any help?

Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. I don't care if the cel is on or not, can you check for applicable trouble codes? Around here some of the national brand auto stores will loan out a fuel pressure gage. You may have to put up deposit, but, you get it back when you bring the gage back. fuel pressure, 35--45 psi, so if it is right in the middle, should be fine. Visually check for spark at all the plugs. Check ignition timing. What about cylinder compression? Proper fuel--air--spark--timing.

I doubt your fuel pressure reg had anything to do with it. it has NOTHING to do with spark and start. you just bought it and therefore it's always a good thing to replace everything right away!! Fluid/ filters and plugs /wires. gap is most likely .044 ( I have a 96 with a 5.8L) and that is my gap. get you a deep sock set ( always at a pawn shop) of 5/8 and a universal joint 38 drive. ALWAYS put non stick on your plugs. My fire order is 13726548, that might work on yours too, call a dealer and ask them with your given VIN. Double check your plug wires to see that they are in synch with F O. Also, check your grounds.. on the battery AND from the battery to the fender and motor to firewall good luck
