White foam under car

Asked by Ringbell51 Jan 18, 2020 at 07:49 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I parked my car last night I noticed white foam
underneath it and where I had drove to park. Looked into
the coolant tank and its empty. What possibly could it be?
Car has 126k on it it's a 3.1lt v6.

It could be the head gasket, that foam is not a good sign. But then again the engine could have overheated and the coolant boiled over. when an engine is overheating and you park it, that coolant continues to boil and expand until it gushes out of reservoir. You'll have to do a comprehensive checkup of cooling system with an eye towards a possible blown head gasket.

I have already checked for the common signs of a bad head gasket. Nothing seems to be in the oil, no smoke out of the exhaust. Though I will look more thoroughly tomorrow. Was going to see if the water pump was bad as well.

Refill it and see what happens, at least you know there is a problem with it and can keep an eye on it if it start running hot again. Could have just ran hot and coolant boiled over.
