05 Subaru Legacy slapping in 2nd gear

Asked by Nathan Feb 23, 2017 at 11:04 PM about the 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5i AWD

Question type: General

I have a 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5i with 175k.  Once
the engine is completely warmed up, and only in
2nd gear, there is a slapping sound.  When it's
anywhere below normal temp, there's no sound.
Also, no sound at all in any other gear.

It's a manual. All I can tell is somewhere in the engine bay. Also, it only occurs between about 2 and 3k rpm.
