it worth just asking cause I've never seen one with just the 2 seats

Neither have I, According to my information the 1985 camaro was never made in convertible mode, that wasn't until 1987 when they started to make the convertible . I've seen a convertible 1982 camaro z28 but that was made custom by the owner not my GM. He took it to a shop to do a convertible conversion, maybe that's what you have.

Yeah it is but I'm trying to get an idea of how many were made and it's value

If it was made into a convertible years after, then it must be 1 of a kind. If it was mine and I wanted to sell it I wouldnt take anything less than 7,000 for it.

I have one that my father-in-law gave to my 12 year old son. it needs a new top and major tune-up. not very many made.

Yeah their an awesome car to have and turn heads too, and he'll love driving it but make sure he knows about it cause a lot of people are gonna ask about it lol cause it is a rare car!!

265

Both are very nice, they have the 5.0 Carbed V8 right ?

65

Yeah its got the v8 5.0 4 barrel 305hp

265

Umm the 1985 305 didn't have 305hp :\........not even the TPI, the 305 had 155hp

65

Yeah wow my bad I didn't mean the hp sorry

125

I have one with a 350 tpi that I am going to sell. The company that converted them was Auto Form Corp. The company converted about 600 total between camaros and firebirds as far as I can find. You can tell there conversions by the batmobile looking deck lid and hardtop covered in fabric over the front seats that flows into the snap down apron that covers the back seat area. My car needs to be restored, but I hesitate every time I go to sell it because they are so rare! Cory

Cory, is yours a 1987 year model ? Because that was The first year of the 350 TPI.

125

No, it's an 85. It must have been a professional conversion because it looks like it rolled out of the factory this way. It has all the right badges, so somebody spent the time and money to do it right.

I read yesterday on a post that an aftermarket third gen camaro convertible sold on ebay for $15,000 with 40-60,000 miles. I think it was also an Auto Form conversion, which is what both you and I have. Cory

I bought one new in 1984 then sold it in 1986.

I bought a 1985 z28 just like that brand new off the showroom floor in n.c. it had tuned port inj 305 it was red. I heard there was only six built for n.c. it cost 20000 new i bought it for 18000 from enterprise chevy it had 64 miles on it. It would bark second gear no matter how slow I took off and it only had 215 hp the specs said but it had to have had mods done I could burn all the vettes and stangs that year id love to have that car back!

Mine doesn't have the auto form Corp patch on it

Mine does not have the Auto Form badge either and I have been told it was built in California, by California Custom... it looks just like an Auto Form conversion but so little info it out there on them it is difficult to say who built them.

I have an 85, red and with a crate gm350 small block. I love it and its made in indiana.

I think I might have stumbled across one of these. It is an 87 so Im diggin to find out if it was an original convertible or one that was done aftermarket, Is there anyway to tell by the vin if it was a factory convertible or done by one of the conversion companies?

125

all original convertibles had 4 seats. some aftermarket did also. Auto Form only made a 2 seater. If it factory, the vin will have a letter or number to tell what body style it was- convertible, coupe or t-top

I have a 1983 with less than 45k on it that needs to be restored. I bought the car in wash. D. C in 1991 from a diplomat and have had it all these years i have driven it less than a 1000 miles. Been toying with the idea of selling, have a guy who wants to trade me a Ford 8N tractor for it but now after reading all this I'm not to sure. It. Was such a beautiful car when I bought it........1cruzing

I have a 1983 Auto form camaro. Mine is in great shape for the age, only 72k original miles, 1st year 5 speed, 5.0 v8, black on black. If anyone is interested i would sell for $6000. I know from what i have read there were maybe only 1000 conversions done by autoform and they were only done in 83 and 84.

No they went to 85, and they made 700 in camaros, 350 in ta's and 200 in fire birds. With yoirs looking like that and that low of miles if original, you need to raise the price to 10 grand. I know someone who worked for autoform in indiana thats how i know so much.

Oh ok, thanks for the info Spencer. Do you know how i can go about getting the production number, date, and plant info? The original stickers inside the door are not there, the car is all original except the wheels, which I will be replacing soon and glad to hear it might be worth that much! I have not formally placed it for sell yet but know it would be a buyer specific car, but any 3rd gen lover would have to like it because its a GREAT looking car!

50

From what ive heard, you can run the vin on the dash to find out which plant made the car and then you should be able to trace from their where they sent it to be customized.

Mines for sale if you're interested

I am selling mine - 1984 Z28 with 80k miles. Located in Maryland.

Has anyone had any luck selling their autoform conversion Z28?. I'm interested in mine.

I have someone who wants to trade me one for my 1994 impala ss. What you think ?

I think it would be a good investment but you would need to hold on to it for a while to get the most money out of it, I sold mine for a lot less than I thought is was worth but there are only so many of them out there although SS impalas are pretty desirable too, depends on which car you would rather have!

I have one on craigslist for sale $15,000 obo or trade Donny dondav1951@gmail.com
