no start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

01 Pontiac Sunfire with a 2.4. Starter sounds like it
spins but does not engage. Bendix does kick out.
However all car it does not sound like it kicks out
or engages just starter spinning. Any thoughts

* Bendix does not sound like it engages where on the car. Just starter spinning. But tested off the car at AutoZone the Bendix did kick out. Sorry it did not show up in my first post.

Rotate engine by hand just to make sure there's not a bad spot on flywheel, if it still only spins, remove starter and tested outside to see if bendix kicks out, if not replace entire starter or just solenoid, depending on ur budget.
