Buying a vehicle from a dealer

When buying car from a car lot dealer. And they
says AS IS. are they not responsible for any bidden
occured, like driving 28 miles and transmission
blow up??? Would they be hold responsible for
repair or vehicle to returned back to dealer???
Please advise me.
