There is a slight smell of coolant in the cabin. The windshield fogs up frequently. Yet, the coolant level is right where it should be. No external leaks seen. ????

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

For about the last four weeks, I've detected the smell of coolant in the cabin.
The defogger seems ineffective on the windshield (even though the air
stream is warm.  The A/C works (blows ice cold air).  Heater blows nice,
warm air.  I've seen no leaks, whatsoever.  The hoses look good.  The
coolant level in the overflow reservoir hasn't gone down one bit (the level is
right where it should be).  I'm going to let VW look at it.  If the heater core
was leaking, I'd see the coolant level dropping.  What could be wrong?

It's a 2005 Jetta wagon. It only has 135,000. I was thinking the same about the heater core, but if there is a leak, why hasn't the level gone down (in nearly a month)?
