Dodge Durango electrical starting problem

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I’m having a very strange electrical issue with
my 1st gen. On a two week road trip the
battery died so I got it jumped. No big deal.
Drove for several hours and camped
overnight and it started right up in the
morning. Drove a few more hours and it
wouldn’t start. Gauges wouldn’t move, no
windows no power locks. Got a jump and it
drove a few hours to an auto shop for a new
battery. Wouldn’t start, gauges wouldn’t
move no power anything. Checked a few
fuses, checked the terminal connections.
Nothing. Got a jump start and drove a few
hours home and didn’t turn it off. As soon as
I got home I turned the motor off and it
wouldn’t start again. It starts and runs fine if I
get a jump but it doesn’t seem to be able to
pull power from the battery at all. Any help?

I got a brand new battery at autozone, same problem. Wasn’t able to start the motor, no gauges came on until I was connected to either a car or a jump box. Once it started with the external power it ran no problem for several hours.

So it could be the ignition switch even if there is no power at all until it is connected to external power?
