Toyota 2009 Camry

Asked by GuruT658S Jul 17, 2018 at 09:08 PM

Question type: General

I have a 2009 Camry that I bought at Milton Martin
Toyota in Gainesville Georgia. The car had 106,000
miles. After my first oil change, three weeks later
the oil light came on and seconds later the engine
blew up. The warranty. Expired and Milton Martin
Toyota would do nothing for me. They said, "Its just
one of those things." I'm calling BS, they must have
been aware of this problem. So, a local shop put in
a used Camry engine with 73,000 miles on it for
$4,200.00. This engine also burns oil fast, and
must have oil added every three weeks. DISGRACE
on Toyota for never recalling these flawed models.
I will NEVER buy another Toyota, or another car
from Milton Martin.

Excessive oil consumption is usually caused by the oil control rings (also called oil scrapers) on the pistons being stuck and not doing their job. The oil return holes behind them cam become clogged/restricted as well making the issue even worse, usually the culprit is irregular oil change intervals. I'm sorry you had a problem at a specific place but you shouldn't take it out on Toyota as they make excellent vehicles, it kind of sounds like your timing belt snapped while you were driving here's why : had the oil pump itself quit the motor probably would have quickly shut down because the fuel pump was cut off or it would have seized solid (locking up your tires) before the fuel ran out. Ehen the timing belt snaps the oil light will come on (lack of pressure because its driven off the timing belt) and you'd most likely hear the "death rattle" as the valves and pistons make brief contact with each other. The only real way to stop excessive oil consumption is replacing the piston rings which entails a minor overhaul of the engine as the connection rod bearings, head gasket and bolts plus various other gaskets, coolant ectera will have to be replaced at the same time. Excessive oil consumption cam lead to overheating and even burning exhaust valves, please don't ask how i know this as it will only dig up bad memories. Lol
