Polarity on a 2006 pt cruiser

Look at the battery and find the Plus(+) and the Negative symbol ( -) .

Red is positive (+) black is negative (-) batteries are usually marked as to which post is which. Also the positive post is usually slightly larger in diameter.

Thanks you brainiacs, I would have never figured that out but you see Im working on a 2005 pt cruiser and I put new battery cable ends on it!! When I started to hook up the cables to the new ends I had a red one that went to the starter and was hot of course and I had 2 cables running into one and one of those cables went directly to the frame and that cable was black and of course it is the ground so I was looking around and then and I found another cable that ran back to the firewall, this cable (get this) was Black, now usually a black cable is a ground that’s what had me confused because I didn’t recall that cable! So I was a little apprehensive about where it went you know with fires and everything! Any way it so happens that cable went to the hot side of the battery and like said it was a Black cable! Anyway I did figure it out and it works fine but I sure am thankful for your guys help on that

Thanks for withholding information. That always helps to give you the information you need. Since you are so smart then you already know that negative goes to ground and that the positive goes to the starter.

You did get that the extra cable was black and black is usually a ground but this black cable went to the hot side that was a first for me!!!

Replacement battery cables are generic and usually black which means you can have two black cables going to the battery which is why you must trace them out if you don't already know where they go.
