what car is a toyota yaris 1.0 engine most suitable for? I'm looking to go economical

I'm looking to go economical.
Please Note: I live in South Africa and the most common and cheap brands are
toyota and VW. I just don't know what car to use fora  learning experience in
mechanical work.

Ok so that model that toyota made never made it to africa as is was discontinued in the late 90's. What else you got in mind that may help me?
