Why does CarGurus allow this tactic

I think it is strange that you don't have a
complaint section....  You must be only
dealer oriented. Colby Auto Sales uses
tactics that either you are not paying
attention to or just don't care. They list
vehicles (2005 Ranger) as $6999 on your
site ( you rate it as a good deal at $6999)
but in their fine print they say that price is
based on a $2000 down payment. This
tactic actually undermines your sites
believability since you post it at $6999
when it is truly $8999.

You can voice your concerns here....https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/enterFeedback.action....but car dealers have been using that tactic among others for many years.

This sales tactic has been used by dealers for decades and is perfectly legal. Often it's part of a "we'll give you $2000 for any junker you can drag in to trade in" deal. But if you research the current pricing on the vehicles they have for sale you'll see their prices are inflated by exact that amount. So you're really not getting anything for your trade in or, in this case, cash. At first glance it looks like their prices are better than everyone else and it catches your eye. Which is exactly what it's designed to do. Good for you for seeing the fine print and being a smart shopper!! Best, in my opinion, to avoid dealers who use these kinds of sales tactics!! HTH. - Jim
