would I have to change anything on a v 6 from a 2010 to 1989

Not worth the trouble. The 1989 has a OBD1 computer to control the engine and trany, and the 2010 is controlled by an OBDII computer. There is such a year span that I am not sure if all the parts are interchangeable or not.
