Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My moms car just started doing this.  If fuel tank is
full it drives fine. As soon as it hits a half of a tank
it dies and wont start till more fuel is added. Fuel
gauge is accurate . There is no whole in the tak
either   Before it never had a problem being at a
quarter or eighth tank. Lucky me it did it the first
time in the middle of nowhere oregons east side

Sounds like the pickup tube in the tank is damaged or bent. You'll have to drop the gas tank to see what's going on. Did you recently replace the fuel pump, then it started giving you trouble? If so you may have the wrong fuel pump in there. HTH. -Jim

Nothing had been done to it. Always ran it on a half to quarter tank with no problems

Definitely sounds like something is going on inside the gas tank with the fuel pump. You can also visually inspect the bottom of the tank from the outside for damage. If the car's been bottomed out and the bottom of the tank is dented that might do it as well. HTH. - Jim
