College Student looking for low budget car

Hello. I'm a college student looking to buy a car that can take me to and from school
(about 1000 miles) a couple times a year, and can take me to and from my job which is 5-
10 miles off campus. Obviously I'm looking for something fuel efficient, and I'd like to
keep it under 150,000 miles. I have a pretty small budget at ~$5,000. I've been looking at
trucks - namely Toyota Tacomas - with toppers or bed covers so I can keep athletic gear
locked in the back without it making the whole vehicle smell, but having a truck isn't a
deal breaker. Does anyone have suggestions of make/model, or maybe a good place to
look? I've heard possibly to look for old rental cars or things along that line. Thanks!
