How do I check the transmission flued on my 2002 Chevy Malibu

Engine running and warmed up. Pull transmission dipstick and check to see ATF in cross hatched area. ATF should also be a bright red and not really thick. Dark red, orange, brown and it's time to get it checked ASAP.

Well, dark red... time to change with filter. Orange or darker need checked ASAP
