Is the transmission from a 2000 Ford Taurus interchangeable with a 1997 Ford Taurus?

Find online "Hollander Interchange Manual" or go to your local junkyard and ask them to look it up in the same manual.

No I do not believe it is. I think it was 1999 or 2000 when thy whent with the lock up converter
