A CPO vehicle has a warranty covered by the dealer. CPO cars have a known maintenance history and have been examined before being offered for sale. Not all cars sold by the dealer meet the standards required. Extended warranties are insurance policies from outside sources. There have been some outside companies that have gone bankrupt and the customers end up holding worthless paper.
