Compatibility of 98 Blazer tranny w/ 1997 Jimmy???

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I hae a 1997 Jimmy which has lost reverse gear.  It's 4WD w/ V-6 engine, AT.  Is the tranny from a 1998 Chevy Blazer, 4WD w/ V-6, AT easily compatible?

Yes, it's the same transmission, same engine, same vehicle mechanically. 1999 models had a different 4WD system, but 97-98 are the same.

OK, it's the same transmission, same engine etc, etc. but there seems to be a break point in compatibility at right about that point in time. Soooo Have you done exactly the thing I describe or are you speaking of the general similarity?

No, I've never did a swap exactly like yours (same years of Blazer/Jimmy), but maybe I can help you with your compatibility problem if you tell me what exactly is the problem? And... I presume that you know Blazers and Jimmy had two kinds of all-wheel-drive systems.. One with a manual (or vaccum or electric) transfer-case (a real 4x4, with a 2HI, 4HI and 4LO, which can't be used on paved roads.) and another one with a full-time AWD (always AWD). They are completely differents systems, and this might lead to a different transmission fitting..

At this point the question is moot as we've decided not to go that way specifically to avoid compatibility problems that MAY come up. I appreciate the offer but avoidance works too. And, yes, thanks, I am familiar with 4WD vs AWD. Trying to swap one for the other would be rather more than I'd like to try. Thanks for your input.
