Depends on the amp mostly!!! My subwoofer preference are the Alpine R's. A set of 12" Alpine R's pushed by a 1000 watt MTX amp, and they will make your heart beat for you! Solid and smooth bass!!!

In my experience the quality of the sound is related more to your box and how its mounted :-\ As far as products... I like volfenhag amps...rockford fosgate subs... Granted I haven't put in a stereo since high school...and was never really into it... :-\

JL does do good work but i think really they have been so popularized that they are charging a good premium for thier product which is not a lot better than many others... BOSE did a nice soundsystem for a friend of mine but really i guess this is a guy answering a question about something he removed from his car when he bought it haha... my car came with a 2000 watt system and it was draining too much power... like 12hp from the wheels haha... and they should be removed in winter up here because the cold can damage the speakers... im happy with the mildly upgraded speakers i have and dont see the need for the big box... and hell i got 1000 dollars and a full set of new 225/55ZR16 BFG Traction TAs for it haha...

true but it also depends on the rms as well. and the build of the cone as well.

and rockford fosgates are ok i think they are below kickers though

not a huge fan of alpine subs and all ive heard was problems with them. mtx makes like one or two things that are good but the rest isnt up to par.

it is a lot better then most if you really knew much about the actual construction of the subs and what there output is compared to otheres.

i had a a kicker comp vr with a jl amp that was pretty loud but want to get either a L7 with a Jl1000 or two w6 with a jl amp havent desided on that one. or id love to get a w7 13 with a jl1000/1.

Again, thanks for your opinion, although not needed... Although I am not a fan of the MTX speaker line, they do make some solid amps. I have had very good luck with them, and in my experience they have some of the better sounding amps. Personally I am not a fan of entry level subs of any manufacturer. The Alpine R's do provide a very smooth bass, and if you are looking concert quality sound-then they are good subs. Really the best recommendation I can give anyone, is if possible, listen to them. Then make your choice.. oh... And how is that base model Lancer treating you???

i didnt say they didnt make good amps they have a few and my lancer is doing great i havent had any problems at all thanks for asking.

I have a soundstream 12" sub in a ported box built specifically for that sub, running off a 330RMS (I think, it's been a while. approx 900 watt) Rockford Fosgate amp. I'm not going to win any competitions or blow out my back window... but it makes a decent sound. I also redid all the interior speakers with Kaption 6x9s in the back and components in the front. In my opinion they sounded much better than the Alpine speakers (side by side comparison) The only issue I have with them, is one of my 6x9s is already crackling... howvever... it seems I've lost the recipt... so I can't get it replaced :( lol

never heard of kaption? that sucks that one is cracking maybe its telling you not to buy it again lol for speakers its a whole different story i think. Alpine speakers are ok i guess id prefer say a Boston Acoustic or a Polk Audio speaker. My friend just put speakers in his sons car and they were kickers and they didnt sound bad for the money and for Kickers lol But when it comes to audio or pretty much anything to do with cars i either save my money to buy the best i can buy or i dont even bother to do anything at all cause its not worth it to me. I.E. modding out my little lancer es like a bunch of other moronic people out there that try to mod there base model piece of crap cars. Its a waste of money and they always turn out tacky and half assed. Im a practical person not a retard. Ok theres my vent for the day lol

Kaption is a Canadian brand, I don't know if they've gotten into the states or not... all the other speakers work great, except the one of them that doesn't. I haven't had a chance to get it out and make sure it's actually messed or if something else is wrong...

When it comes to car audio, you've got to decide what you are after, you want quality or quantity ..... If you are after quality your best brands are JL audio, Bose, Harman Kardon, Cerwin Vega and DLS. My fav being DLS and JL Your best bet will be a 13W7 with the JL 1000.1 amp and if you wanna spent the money on a set of DLS Nobelum splits with a DLS Globe glow amp .... Bobs your uncle there is a a brand called StarSound ....if you want a loud car get their digital range .... they have Broken just about all the IASCA world records and they are dirt cheap. but yes ..... Alpina Decks, JL sub and amp and DLS split system ..........

i had a W7 13 inch and the JL amp to go with it. and i had a custom ported box built that took up nearly the entire rear of my navigator haha. loudest system ive heard but also the best sound quality ive heard. i never turned it up loud unless goofing around. JL W7 series is the best and i always go with the matching JL slash series amps
