2006 Equinox coolant system

Asked by Timothy Nov 28, 2019 at 06:12 AM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced my thermostat but still seem to be
getting hot and cold for heat. It wanted to overheat
when in idle but as soon as I added more coolant
in it my heater blew hot again. Does an equinox go
through that much coolant when using the heat?

I would assume you would need to properly bleed the cooling system after adding coolant, to release the air that is trapped. You didn't mention that you performed this procedure.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dA9Oa5MhLD0

Also, needing to add coolant frequently means you have a leak somewhere. On an older model with some miles on it needing to top it off once or twice a year is normal. Even then you should only be adding a little bit. Hope that helps! Jim
