Best bet is to have the A/C system serviced by a professional. They vacuum the old gas out, check for leaks and install new gas. --- If you're adding a can, buy one can and install it. There should be instructions about temperatures of the lines that tell you when it's full. Adding too much can be bad. Look for leaks at the connections. It will leave an off color oily residue.

That's right Daivid. I have four cans of R-12 stowed away in the garage. The new stuff is R-134a but I didn't remember the numbers.
