2004 chevy cavalier
was driving pulled on to off ramp car died did not make any sound when died will not start
when you try to start you can hear the started trying to turnover but the engine will not
turn over any ideas
Could be a timing chain my mom had a car that done the same thing and had to get another engine
when cranking can u smell gas in the exhaust?.. if so, your ignition system needs repair. if not, your fuel pump is gone.
You either ran out of gas or if the starter is "trying" to turn over, could be a defective battery caused by a bad alternator.
"Trying to turn over" sounds like it could be a broken timing chain which would jam a piston against a valve. "Car died did not make any sound" sounds like it ran out of gas, bad fuel pump or failed ignition. --- Pull a valve cover and try to spin the engine by hand to see if the cam rotates.
Did it feel like it lost power before you took your foot off the gas? Is that why you were taking the ramp? I would recommend you have it looked at by a mechanic. It could be anything from a faulty sensor to engine failure.
