Truck dies when it drops under 1000 RPMs (94 2wd v8 5 .2L

Just moved to a high elevation town. Brought it into a shop because the timing
seemed off and I seemed to be running rich. Truck wasn't spitting out any codes.They
replaced the distributor, the map sensor and the computer. Only charged me for parts
and apologized that they couldn't repair it. Brought it to two other mechanics to no
avail. Everybody is stumped. Now it dies under 1000 rpms. I have to feather the gas
the whole time I brake and turning downhill takes a certain finesse. I am only getting 2
error codes: 12 (battery recently disconnected) and 55 (just an ending code). Any
ideas?
