1996 300 I6 4X4 NOT STARTING OR CUTTING OUT-THE MECHANIC CHANGED IGN MOD WITHOUT DISC. THE BATTERY STILL NO GO-NOW THINKS IT NEEDS A DISTRIBUTOR - YOU SUPPOSE HE FRIED THE DIST. P/U OR WORSE ? HELP !

DIDNT KNOW IF IT WAS FUEL OR SPARK- MECH. CHECKED IT, SAID
SPARK AND PUT AN IGN. MOD IN ( WITHOUT DISCONNECTING BATTERY)

ISNT SENDING MESSAGE TO THE IGN COIL-SO A NEW ( USED) DIST. IS
ON THE WAY - I HAD THIS TO 3 SHOPS NOW FOR SAME TROUBLE --
The distrubutor pickup does not use voltage to do its job, it is a pulse device, on this model of rig you can change the pickup coil without replacing the distributor, you listed the distributor as used, not good, as you might have the same problem with a used distributor, I have replace more of these than I can remember and disconnecting the battery was no big deal as long as the unit was installed and grounded. The biggest problem is the quality if the parts, stick with major brands like NAPA.
Guys-I picked the Ford up today, it is runnig good so far with the used Dist. I had 189000 miles on mine so it`s kinda like a new part right. Hope to get another 100K out of the truck, I only had it a few years and I really like it – we live in the hills of Arkansas, drive it to work every day plus haul a few things ( wood & kayaks ) we take it down the buffalo River roads and creekbeds. Thank you for the input, will keep you posted.
Great, if it still runs after the engine is fully warmed up, usually about a hour, then it is a good one.
