Switch on the headlights and try to start it. Do the headlights go out or get very dim? If so, check the battery cable connections at both ends. Probably a bad ground connection. If the headlights stay nice and bright try cranking it using a remote starter button. Turn the ignition to the run position and if it starts using the remote starter button your ignition switch is bad. HTH. -Jim

I have to reach over the steering wheel with my left hand and hold up on the shifter lever. Must be something in the switch.

Ah, here's something else to check then. The neutral safety switch. It's at the bottom of the steering column close to the fire wall. It has 2 electrical connections on it. One for the reverse lights and one for the ignition circuit. HTH. -Jim
