The driver's side wiper goes far left and then far right and then only a little way. What is causing this?

Could be a number of problems, wiper arm bushings, wiper pivot assembly, bad wiper arm knuckle unit, you will just have to get in there and check.

hold down bolt at wiper arm at windshield is loose or arm is stripped from gripping pin. see if looseness by moving outside by hand while arm is parked on glass!

may have plastic arm cover over hold down nut!

My husband took off the plastic cover on the arm and tightened it and now it works fine. Thank you very much!
