Window on ford

Asked by GuruLM8P Apr 16, 2017 at 05:26 PM about the 2005 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The back left window when we tried to put
it down made a clicking sound and
wouldn't move . Now it just slides down on
its own and we had to physically push it
back up . Came out this morning and it's
all the way down and is completely inside
the door frame and we can't physically
push it up anymore . What could be the
problem and is it an easy fix?

Define easy. If you can take the door panel off you'll be able to see everything you need to see to figure out your problem. Door panels are pretty easy to remove They usually are attached with screws at the arm rest and door latch handle then they are held in place with plastic clips all around the edge of the panel. You just have to pry panel apart at the clips(just a firm pull will usually do it.) Then you'll be able to see what kind of problem you have. If the window is broken were it connects to the power window equipment you'll have to replace it. But if it just slipped out of the hardware you may be able to just reinsert it and tighten it up. If the motor isn't working you can go to a salvage yard and replace it fairly cheaply. Hope this helps.

The bottom portion of the window fits into a track. Chances are it probably came out of the track. Some are clipped in, others are glued in. If the glue gave way, have someone move the window to the up position then place some silicone in the track and move it up to the bottom of the glass and insert it. Make sure the window is in the proper up position when attaching the track at the bottom to insure proper up and down movement. Leave the window up overnight until the silicone dries.
