I just put a new water pump on my 1989 ford f150 pickup and now its running really hot,
what have I done wrong

Been tricked one too many times by : " I just put...." Let me know if that means you put it on yourself or you had it done for you. It makes a big difference..

If indeed you installed your water pump yourself then let's start with what did you check before you diagnosed the problem that led to a new water pump?
