2006 f150 5.4L won’t turn over clicks once

Asked by blackwell4ua Apr 28, 2019 at 01:28 PM about the 2006 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My friends truck will not start. He said he
went somewhere and when he got back in
the truck to leave it would not turn over and
clicks 1 single time. I have tried tapping on
the starter and tried jumping it from the
solenoid with a screw driver and nothing
changed. Well it did not even click a few
times after that. Next day I have cleaned the
battery terminals as best I could (they are
badly corroded) and got pretty much all of it
off. Now it is clicking 2 or 3 times but not
turning over. Planning on changing the
battery terminals next. Hoping to be able to
get it to crank at least once before I replace
the starter because it is in a hot parking lot.
Anyone know what else I can try?

Did you try jump starting with another vehicle or jump box ? Also may want to install another know working battery. Have battery tested

Brand new battery and had it checked there are no problems with the battery itself and also tried jumping it with my car. I’ve the starter off now (it was extremely difficult to get the top bolt, didn’t have the exact socket drive needed but I somehow got it) and we are going to get it checked and more than likely buy a new one. So......I guess we will find out soon enough if the starter is the problem or only part of the problem

Sounds like motor maybe seized or locked up this does not always mean motor is bad could be something simple like alternator, water pump or any on of the accessories that the bearing may be seized causing motor not to turn over. Put a socket onto crankshaft bolt with a ratchet try to turn if it does not spin something is causing it not to turn.
